This linocut was printed from four large blocks, in sombre but warm colours: cream, yellow ochre, red and blue. The design is based on drawings of my little flock of garden hens and the ark that was their home. The background is imagined but makes reference to my garden and to clearings nearby in the Forest of Dean. An ominous autumn moon is rising, casting long shadows across the hillside. Late apples and leaves fall from the tree. The hens are apprehensive, ready to take cover in their ark.
The image was professionally printed onto Somerset Enhanced 225gm acid free authentic fine art paper from St Cuthbert’s Mill, Somerset, using the highest quality archival pigment inks. This was mounted onto Japanese Hosho paper, which in turn was applied to a 350gm satin card. A thumbnail print was applied to the back of the card with details of printing. Finally the card was signed, dated and titled by the artist.
This card is the perfect size to be mounted into a standard 25 x25cm frame. A perfect small gift which can be displayed for many years without fear of fading.
